Lantern Festival is a very sacred, happy, and joyful festival. During the Lantern Festival, Chinese families get together to eat Yuánxiāo 元宵 or Tāngyuán 汤圆, a sweet rice dumpling soup, enjoying watching informal lantern parades, guessing lantern riddles, which often contain messages of good fortune, family reunion, abundant harvest, prosperity and love. In ancient times, the lanterns were fairly simple, for only the emperor and noblemen had large ornate ones; in modern times, lanterns have been embellished with many complex designs. We saw a few of the floating lanterns. It wasn't quite like on the movie Tangled, but it was still really cool.
